From the Rough Riders to the Murrah Building; from the battleship USS Oklahoma
to the famed Thunderbird Division; from Normandy and North Africa to Iwo Jima;
from Viet Nam to the Gulf War and on to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Oklahomans have demonstrated a patriotic spirit that has been chronicled,
displayed, eulogized and honored. This calendar identifies only a few acts of
patriotism, but it honors them all.
Oklahoma 2004 Spirit of Patriotism is one more endeavor to pay tribute to the
service and sacrifices of the military men and women -- at home and abroad. It is
no less or no more significant than all the tributes and recognition already shown
-- it is just the most recent.
One of the outstanding nostalgic calendars produced by Yellow Pad Inc. pays
tribute to Oklahomans who have received the Medal of Honor; V - E Day in Tulsa,
the Oklahoma National Guard and reservists, the Codetalkers, the thousands who
have given blood and the famed "Rosie the Riveter."
There's also a salute to the late Bill Mauldin, creator of those two famous bearded
infantrymen, Willie and Joe. Mauldin's personal original collection of his "Up
Front" cartoons is on display at the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma
City.
